SAF Continuing Forestry Education credits

Do you deliver training that targets Forest Stewardship Plan writers or Society of American Foresters (SAF) certified foresters? If so, you should get your training graded for CFE credit (continuing forestry education credit)!

This will make it easier for those who attend your workshop, seminar, or other training event to get the credits they need to maintain their status as approved forest stewardship plan writers or as SAF certified foresters.

Please note that credits will not be awarded to foresters for a training event that targets NIPF forest landowners or any other non-professional audience. This includes Woodland Advisor courses.

Here are the steps to follow…

Prior to the event (or NO LATER than one week after the event takes place)

  1. Create the training agenda, with as much detail as possible. Include breaks, travel time if going to field sites, presentation titles and speakers’ names.
  2. Fill out the interactive Continuing Education Application form. (.pdf)
  3. Submit CE Application form and event agenda to SAF using the e-mail address provided on the form. (The form can also be printed and either faxed or mailed to SAF.) OR submit the form to Minnesota’s SAF CFE coordinator, Larry Westerberg (phone: 651-437-8573; e-mail: treeguru@juno.com). Note: Larry can only grade training events that take place in Minnesota.

Once your training has been graded, you will be provided with a standardized sign-in sheet and certificates to be filled out and given to event participants.

After the Event

No later than three weeks after conclusion of an event, providers must submit the following information to the SAF National Office:

  1. Final Agenda AND
  2. Sign in Sheets OR Registration Records

The SAF National Office will retain the past three-years of agendas and attendance verifications.  If a provider fails to submit the above information, the SAF Certification Review Board reserves the right to immediately remove CFE credit in its entirety.
