Welcome to the SFEC Webinar Pilot!

Here is some information you will want to know before the webinar.

SFEC Webinar attendees need to have an Internet web browser, the same browser you used to get to this page. Examples include Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla Firefox. The interactive nature of the seminar is the opportunity to ask questions of the presenter in a real time venue. You will do this by typing your question of comment in what it called a "chat pod."

No additional hardware is required. Almost all current computers already have a Flash player installed, which is used by the web conferencing software.

Information to connect to the conference will be sent to people who have registered. Registered users will receive a web link to connect as a guest to the web conference site. Registered users will receive a web link with the option to test their connection two days prior to the web conference.

Access to the web conference site that hosts the Internet seminars is covered by your registration fee. Your standard Internet connection charges, if you have them, would still apply. During the webinar there will be technical support if your have any problems with the audio, etc.

Step by Step instructions to connect:

  • To test your computer: at any time before the meeting, go to www.extension.iastate.edu/testconnect to test your computer’s ability to participate.
  • You will receive the audio via your computer, so ensure your speakers are connected and turned on.
  • Click the link in the e-mail you receive one day before the webinar. We are using Adobe Connect software for the webinars.
  • You will be prompted to sign in as a guest; please type your full name. **If you wish to receive the SAF CFE credit for attending, please type either CF (for SAF Certified Forester) or FSP (for MN Forest Stewardship Program plan writer.)

NOTE:  If the meeting has started, your browser immediately displays the meeting room.  If the meeting has not started, you receive this message:  "The meeting has not yet started.  You will be able to access the meeting once the host arrives.  Please wait."

All email notifications for the SFEC Webinar pilot will be sent from llevy@umn.edu.

All webinars will last approximately 55 minutes, with more time available for questions after the presentation is done.

SAF Continuing Forestry Education Credits

Certified Foresters and Forest Stewardship Plan Writers who wish to receive credit for participation in the live SFEC seminar webcasts need to report the date of each webcast via the SAF website.

Once at the site, search in MN for the date of the webcast. If you need assistance please contact the folks at SAF.  I provide SAF with the names of foresters who participate in each webcast, based on your indication, and SAF uses that information as verification for the data you provide on their website.  You will also receive an SAF CFE certificate for your records.
