2018 Workshop: Adaptive Management for Climate Change

A two-day mostly field-based workshop addressing real-world, adaptation-focused forest management. We will spend the majority of our time touring a variety of forested stands under active management. Site hosts and instructors will discuss management objectives, silvicultural prescriptions, treatment implementation, and outcomes in terms of multiple values and objectives including a focus on climate adaptation considerations. There will be ample time to discuss management alternatives, tradeoffs, and strategies to integrate uncertainty into silviculture planning.

Dates:  Wednesday and Thursday August 29 and 30, 2018.
Location: 

  • August 29: indoors at Itasca Community College (am), field tour near Grand Rapids, MN (pm)
  • August 30: field tour near Grand Rapids, MN  

Cost: $15 per person regardless of SFEC membership status. Offered for a reduced fee in partnership with the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
CE credits: This workshop has been approved for 8.5 CAT1 CFEs by SAF. Day 1: 5.0 CAT1 (optional evening activity 0.5 CAT1), Day 2: 3.0 CAT1 CFEs.
