This workshop is designed to equip foresters with strategies to communicate silvicultural objectives effectively to loggers and put together sales that are marketable and meet silvicultural objectives. Throughout the day we'll have a mix of indoor and field sessions that come at the timber sale process from multiple different angles.
Learning objectives
- Foresters feel confident and equipped to interact positively with loggers to accomplish silvicultural objectives
- Foresters are able to communicate silvicultural objectives effectively, including why they have decided to incorporate the various elements into their plan
- Foresters understand forest operations from a logger’s perspective
- Foresters are able to put together sales that are both marketable and meet silvicultural goals

- 9:00am: Introductions and outline agenda
- 9:15am: MN DNR Utilization and Marketing perspective
- 9:45am: Broader DNR trends in sales that didn’t sell
- 10:15am: Break
- 10:25am: Small group work and reporting out - Project stand; additional issues associated with selling tracts; what do foresters wish loggers knew; what do loggers wish foresters knew; examples of sticking points and potential solutions
- 11:30pm: Lunch
- 12:30pm: Field site visits
- 3:00pm: Adjourn
Cost: This event is open to all interested learners. $75 for members, $140 for non members, $40 for students.
