A field day focused on forest climate adaptation, planned for forest resource managers. We will meet in the Two Harbors area and drive to nearby field sites. This event is organized by the Minnesota Forest Climate Working Group and the UMN Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative. 

The closing session for our 2026 Ecosystem Silviculture course. This session, generally attended by course participants and their supervisors, is entirely composed of presentations of capstone projects by students. 

Minnesota's lowland conifer-dominated ecosystems are important culturally, economically, and ecologically. In recent years a variety of challenges have emerged that affect these systems and their management. At this day-long event at the Cloquet Forestry Center, we'll dig into these issues. The event includes presentations from researchers, state agency program leaders, and practitioners as well as group discussions about ideas, solutions and paths forward.  

UMN Extension Educator Peter Dieser will explore the ecological characteristics of late-successional forests as well as discuss the ways in which forest management can maintain or enhance these conditions, with an emphasis on preserving ecological diversity, habitat connectivity, and structural complexity.

The purpose of this symposium is to present new applied research, knowledge gained through practice, and case study findings relevant to regional natural resource managers, with a focus on silviculture, forest management, and forest-associated wildlife.
